HEN ON NEST CANDY DISH
MILK GLASS NESTING CHICKEN
This auction buys a white milk glass Hen on a Nest Covered Dish made by Westmoreland during the 1950’s. Chicken has detailed raised markings for feathers, wings & hackles. His head is turned towards one side, tail is split and both eyes & comb are hand painted red.
Chicken’s nest has basket weave design on sides & beaded edge around the rim. It is indented where the chicken sets for a secure fit. This covered dish can be used as a candy or nut dish or a trinket bowl to keep keys, jewelry, etc. The lid is marked inside (under a wing) with the original Westmoreland mark (W over a G) used during the 1950’s prior to switching to stickers after 1960.
Dish measures about 7½” long x 5¾” wide with chicken lid in place.  It is in very good condition – lid is perfect with no chips, cracks or missing paint. There is a chip inside the bowl below the inside edge where the lid sits. It cannot be seen with lid closed & because it is white on white it is not very noticeable with dish uncovered.
This vintage dish will be fun to use or it will make a great addition to a Westmoreland Glass, Vintage Milk Glass or Hen on a Nest Collection!
