What to know about taking Wegovy with Adderall

Wegovy is not known to interact with Adderall. It’s likely safe to take these medications together, but check with a doctor first because these drugs can have some similar side effects.
Wegovy (semaglutide) is a chronic weight management medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in some people with obesity or overweight. It’s also approved to reduce serious cardiovascular risks.

In medical terms, an interaction is when one substance causes another to have a different effect than expected. An interaction can occur with another drug or with foods or supplements. Drug interactions may increase the risk of side effects or change the effectiveness of either or both drugs.

There are no reports of Wegovy interacting with Adderall or other ADHD medications. This includes other CNS stimulants, such as lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), and nonstimulants, such as atomoxetine (Strattera).

However, GLP-1s may affect how your body absorbs oral drugs (drugs taken by mouth). (Adderall is an oral drug.) Additionally, Wegovy and ADHD medications can cause some of the same side effects (discussed later in this article).
may affect
GLP-1s slow down the movement of food through your stomach and into your small intestine. Changes in the way your body absorbs a drug may affect the level of the drug in your system. In turn, this may change how effective the drug is in treating your condition.
Semaglutide (the GLP-1 in Wegovy) did not affect the absorption of the medications studied in clinical trials. (Adderall was not among those medications.) Still, it’s important to monitor for changes if you’re taking oral drugs with Wegovy.

If you take Adderall (or another ADHD medication) and use Wegovy, talk with your doctor if you notice any differences in how either medication is working to treat your condition.
Wegovy, Adderall, and other ADHD medications, such as methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, others), can cause some similar side effects. These include reduced appetite and digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

These symptoms may reduce your nutrient intake, which may lead to weight loss. Using Wegovy with an ADHD medication may amplify this effect. While Wegovy is intended to help with weight loss, losing too much weight or losing it too quickly can have negative effects, such as gallstones.

For this reason, be sure to get enough nutrient-dense foods in your diet. If you’d like more help in this area, talk with your doctor or ask whether they can recommend a dietitian.

Also, compounded products may not be safe or effective. Always purchase semaglutide products with a prescription from a licensed healthcare professional.
Summary
Wegovy and Adderall are not known to interact. However, Wegovy may have a small effect on your body’s absorption of oral medications such as Adderall.
Also, Wegovy and ADHD medications can cause some of the same side effects, including reduced appetite. If you use these medications together, you may need to take steps to ensure that you get enough nutrients in your diet.
Your doctor can determine whether this combination of medications is right for you. To reduce the risk of drug interactions, it’s important to discuss all medications, supplements, herbs, and vitamins you’re taking with a doctor or pharmacist.
